Check out this HOG website. Our Webmaster team of Ralph Sanchez and Owen Freeman are doing a great job of getting the information out to our HOG members. We are also current with pictures of HOG members doing what we do best…riding and having fun!!!
We’ve been getting some great numbers at our events so those of you who have been staying home are missing out on a great opportunity to meet some new friends and visit with old friends.
At the August Bike Night, 52 HOG members showed up at Don Perico’s Mexican Restaurant in Shafter. We had paved parking and an air conditioned room to enjoy some great Mexican food. A far cry from the heat and dust out at Ethel’s. HOG made a statement that night and I’ve heard from many members they were tired of Ethel’s and welcomed the change! We’re doing it again on October 9th.
We had 42 bikes and about 58 members show up for the August Breakfast ride out to the Iron Skillet in Lebec. Once again, HOG members had a great ride out through the country and to a restaurant where we are welcomed with open arms. After a great meal, several members returned to Bakersfield Harley-Davidson for the kick-off Open House for the 105th Celebration.
HOG members David and Maggie Long are taking their bike back to Milwaukee for the 105th Celebration and agreed to take the Bakersfield HOG Chapter 1580 flag for the Parade of Flags. David kept in touch with me on the trip back and said going through Las Vegas was like riding through a blast furnace.
The Long’s made it all the way back without incident only to have a truck back into their motorcycle when they got there. Luckily, the truck’s hitch hit directly on the rear license plate and only pushed the bike forward about 6 inches and didn’t knock it over!!! The only damage was a slightly dented California license plate. Not lucky to get hit, but real lucky to get hit that way!!!
Katie O’neal planned a great LOH ride in August. Katie, with help from husband Scott and Anne Wade, held a Poker Run to Kernville. Katie’s event raised $350 so $175 went to the high hand winner, Jill Borgsdorf. Katie had gathered up over $700 worth of prizes for the winners who guessed the time and mileage of the legs of the Poker Run. What a great idea!!! Katie donated the other half of the 50/50 poker run ($175) back to Bakersfield HOG at our General Meeting. For her efforts, Katie was given a Certificate of Appreciation from HOG for putting together a great LOH event.
On the following Sunday, a memorial ride was held and Jill Borgsdorf donated $100 of her winnings to that fund. Jill dontated the other $75 back to Bakersfield HOG at the General Meeting. During that same memorial event, Tina Mikolajczak won the 50/50 drawing of about $450. Tina promptly donated her winnings back to the event. These members show the true spirit of Bakersfield HOG…giving back whenever we can to make our community a better place to live.
We have some great rides coming up in September. Come out on the 6th and you’ll have fun at a ride sponsored by Hal Onsum out to “The Place” on Hwy 33. Hal has arranged for a BBQ lunch of tri-tip, chicken, salad, beans, rolls and drinks for only $15 each. This should be a great event for HOG and the weather should be a little cooler.
Our HOG events are increasing in size so come out and enjoy some great camaraderie with your fellow members. Don’t forget the HOG Rodeo on September 13th along with a HOG BBQ at Bakersfield Harley-Davidson. This is sure to be a great time. Hope to see you at any HOG event…
As always…ride safe and ride often.
